Vince Hill is instantly recognisable as one of Britain’s best-loved singing stars. Major chart success came in 1967 with Edelweiss and Roses Of Picardy, two songs perfectly suited to his style which established him both on radio and television with regular appearances on variety shows such as Stars And Garters. In truth Vince had been performing since his teens, enjoying popularity as part of the Raindrops singing group who boasted a regular slot on the BBC’s Light Programme. The 60s saw Vince go solo and after a short tenure with Pye Records, he signed to Columbia where he recorded his biggest hits, amongst them Take Me To Your Heart Again and Look Around. His distinctive vocal delivery and a discerning choice of material have earned him an International following and he continues to perform regularly.

Drawn from two albums recorded in the early 1980s (While The Feeling’s Good and Evergreen), this 2CD set brings together 40 classic songs which showcase Vince’s unmistakable styling, some of which have never before been available on CD. Alongside standards such as Unchained Melody, he calls upon a pool of talented songwriters including Bacharach & David (Make It Easy On Yourself), Neil Sedaka (The Hungry Years), Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent (Where Are You Now?), the Carpenters (Top Of The World), Gilbert O’Sullivan (Alone Again, Naturally) and dips into the Motown songbook for Reach Out, I’ll Be There. Vince also turns in a commendable cover of the Kenny Rogers’ classic Ruby, whilst imbuing the Beatles’ Hey Jude with a jazzy, big band feel and revisiting those favourites for which he is best remembered; Edelweiss and Roses Of Picardy. By way of a bonus, Vince’s 1993 single Swing Low Sweet Chariot is also included.

The package includes comprehensive liner notes with extracts from a recent interview with Vince and previously unseen photographs.
