With
the possible exception of Marcie Blane and Shirley Elliston
(aka Shirley Name Game Ellis), few of the
artists on this collection could claim to be household
names. For the most part they remain tantalisingly obscure
but thats all part of their charm and the rarity
of these early-to-mid 60s recordings drawn from
Presidents US subsidiaries Joy, Seville, Duel, Select
and Shell, is sure to set many a collectors pulse
racing in eager anticipation of the gems included, 17
of which make their official CD debut here.
For
starters theres Linda Cumbo whose Select 45s command
a hefty price tag on the Femme Pop circuit. Also included
are early Soul offerings by Pat Jarvis, Millie Foster
and Little Gigi. Archetypal Teen Pop with a feminine
twist is provided courtesy of Joys Jamie Horton,
Karol Slow Dance Kelly (check out Night
And Day USA SELCD 6) and Susan Lynne whose little-heard
Duel cut Therell Be No Goodbyes appears
on CD for the first time. The Girl Group end of the
spectrum is taken care of by the magnificent Twilights,
Terry & the Tunisians, the Kittens and the Chelmars,
whose wonderful Jigsaw Puzzle is worth the price of
admission alone.
With
annotation by noted Femme Pop authority Mick Patrick,
rare memorabilia and photos this is a must for all fans
of the genre.
